Finding a used Kirby vacuum cleaner is not difficult on internet auction sites or from private individuals, but finding one with a warranty still valid, is hard. Kirby sells its units today the same as it did when the company first began, through home demonstration only and its warranty is limited to the original purchaser.

Originally, through in-home sales, most Kirby vacuum cleaners would cost between $1,500 and $3,000 depending on the mood of the sales staff since they had a lot of individual control over pricing and Kirby had a finance company who accepted those with less than perfect credit histories. Although their financing and sales techniques still raise a few eyebrows, there was never any doubt about the quality of the vacuum.
